Great post! Documenting dance has suffered in comparison to the other performing arts (music having scores and theater having scripts). LabanNotation is so cumbersome for many that they don't even try to use it. Video is great and terrible at the same time. because it is dependent on the dancer's performance and their interpretation (in addition to technology and its idiosycracies).

I use Language of Dance© which is basic Motif notation that has been developed into a more comprehensive system by Ann Hutchinson Guest. What is so great about LOD is that it can be simple or complex (looking for like LabanNotation) depending on your needs.
I use it in my technique classes as well as for choreography and have my students read and "interpret" the score. In this way they learn to practice more like musicians and I have seen a great improvement in their performance as a whole.
For more info on LOD here is the link to the UK website

Enjoy!

Its a great article "How do you write down choreography?". Its a complex act to write down choreography. We don't realize but its really a hard task. As music can be written, its a nice way to write choreography.

i hope this article awakens others as much as it did me. most people don't realize the complexity of making a coreographed routine. i want to show my coach this blog to learn about lab notation, thank you so much!
